The purposes of this handbook are to present the John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Timing and Countdown Systems Operations Plan, to provide a description of the systems in use, to familiarize personnel engaged in space vehicle checkout and launch operations with available KSC timing and countdown services and to show how these services may be obtained.
  • "Apollo/Saturn consolidated instrumentation plan for AS-204/LM-1."

This report represents the consolidated instrumentation plan for employing optical and electronic data acquisition systems to monitor the performance and trajectory of the Apollo/Saturn 1B vehicle, AS-2 04/LM-1, during powered flight. Telemetry and electronic tracking equipment on board the vehicle, and data acquisition systems monitoring the flight are discussed. Flight safety instrumentation and vehicle data transmission are described, and geophysical information is provided. This plan reflects the general instrumentation coverage requirements set forth in the NASA Program Support Requirements Document (PSRD) for Apollo/Saturn 16, and the commitments of Eastern Test Range (ETR) Operations Directive (OD) No. 4206,dated 15 August 1967. This plan is not intended to conflict with or to supersede either document. The information presented in this document reflects planning concepts developed prior to October 1, 1967.

  • "John F. Kennedy Space Center: A Selective Bibliography."

This is primarily the bibliography of an organization located in an area which was once inhabited by more beasts and birds than people. The evolution of the Kennedy Space Center cea be traced from the Army Ballistic Missile Agency and Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Alabama. That period is fully covered by Historical Origins of NASA's Launch Operations Center to July 1, 1962.
  • The "Apollo/Saturn Data Handbook."

According to the preface, "This handbook provides KSC management personnel with general information relative to the Apollo-Saturn program. Emphasis is placed on Saturn launch facilities and related support equipment. Saturn vehicle parameters are included for general information.
  • "A summary of major NASA launchings" between October 1st and December 31st, 1968.

This is the first Quarterly Supplement to the October 1968 edition of GP 381, ''A Summary of Major NASA Launchings (Eastern Test Range and Western Test Range)." This Supplement covers the period from October 1 to December 31, 1968. Two additional Quarterly Supplements will be issued during 1969. Each of these will list those major NASA launchings occurring during the three-month period it covers. • "Saturn I engine gimbal and thrust vector control systems."

The hydraulic systems for the two-stage block II Saturn I vehicle are described with the evolution of their development.
  • "Redundancy employing majority voting for a Saturn servoactuator."

R-ASTR-NF.; ABSTRACT: The servoactuator was developed to improve the reliability of the Saturn S-IVB thrust vector control system by insuring continued system operation if single point failures occur. The selection of the majority voting technique is discussed. Its simplicity is cited along with the advantages of minimum weight, size, power consumption, and compatibility with existing control electronics. Operational features, design mechanization, and the analysis of test results are covered.
  • "The Development of Servovalves with Improved Reliability for Space Vehicles."

Considerations for improvement in the reliability of the Saturn engine gimbal servosystems are briefly covered. The Saturn I servovalves operate with increased electrical input power. The Saturn V vehicle stages will use mechanical feedback actuators with increased electrical input power, larger orifices and nozzle sizes, larger torque motor wire size, and greater spool driving forces.
